European Population Conference EPC'2003

Jerzy Z. Holzer Award

The Committee of Demographic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences has established a prize as a tribute to Professor Jerzy Z. Holzer, who died in September 2001.

The Jerzy Z. Holzer Prize may be awarded for two kinds of achievements: outstanding papers, articles and books, written by young Polish scholars (up-most doctors of science) and outstanding scientific as well organisational achievements, which contribute remarkably to the progress in demography and population studies in Poland.

The Prize will be awarded once a year according to the following rules:

  • A scientific paper, an article or a book may be nominated for the award either on the request of its author or another person;
  • Only papers prepared in the year the prize is awarded or a year before may be nominated;
  • Nominees to the award for scientific and organisational achievements may be of Polish or non-Polish citizenship. Nominations are made by the members of the Committee of Demographic Science or the members of the Jury.
The Prize is awarded by a Jury appointed by the Committee, for its term of office. The Jury consists of ex officio: the president of the Committee, editor-in-chief of "Demographic Studies", and Dorota Holzer-Żelażewska - the daughter of Professor J.Z.Holzer.

Since Jerzy Z. Holzer contributed largely and enthusiastically to the establishment of EAPS the prize was granted for the first time at the EAPS European Population Conference in Warsaw, August 26-30, 2003.
