INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE at the WARSAW SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS, OCTOBER 8-9, 2009

On October 8-9, 2009, the Warsaw School of Economics - SGH will host a conference aimed at analyzing regions, firms, and institutions acting in the world economy. The conference will be accompanied by a Ph.D. workshop.

The increasing international interdependence of regions, firms, and institutions characterizes the world economy. International integration gives countries the opportunity to raise economic welfare while, at the same time, increasing the exposure to shocks from abroad. Increased vulnerability to foreign shocks may, ultimately, promote opposition against a further deepening of the integration process as such.

The aim of the conference is to study the process of international integration, its obstacles, and its implications for economic policies.

A broad concept of integration will be applied. Regional preferential economic agreements, international trade, production fragmentation, foreign direct investment, portfolio investment and cross-border bank lending, migration, and internationalisation of economic decision-making and activities of international organisations in the globalising world economy will be studied.

We look forward to meeting you in Warsaw and hope you will find this website informative and useful.
